Zune Sales Falling Off?

12/18/2006 10:27:32 AM
According to this article, Zune sales continue to fall. In a lot of ways, I am not surprised. Mostly because I have seen a grand total of two commercials for Zune while having seen at least three for iPod in the same amount of time. That amazes me, given that Zune is a brand new product launch going up against an established market brand name. Two commercials? That is ridiculous. Throw in a few of the other well known Zune short comings, and the lack of Zune momentum does not surprise me in the least.

Firefox and CardSpace

12/14/2006 7:35:03 AM
CardSpace supports comes to Firefox. Get an interesting look at this annoucment here. Powerful quote...

Scott Hanselman, chief architect with Corillian Corp., a Hillsboro, Ore.-based financial-services integrator, is bullish about CardSpace's prospects.

"CardSpace is going to change it all. It’s likely the biggest thing to happen to security since HTTPS. CardSpaces changes the game for consumers. It’ll take a few years, but after IE7 and FireFox and MacOSX all have CardSpace implementations – and it won’t take long – we’ll see Identity 2.0 happen," Hanselman said.

HP and Microsoft Deal

12/14/2006 7:18:30 AM
I say, "Yawn!"

Yet another "big deal" announcement between two big tech companies that will be all but forgot in six months. These types of things get announced all the time and very, very rarely does anything really come of them.

HP and MSFT sounds great on paper, and IMHO, MSFT should have seriously looked at buying HP back in the late '90s to create a true hardware/software juggernaut. Today, there is always a bit of friction since large parts of HP push Linux solutions or other types of competing solutions.

Color me jaded when it comes to these types of things. Anyone remember the Sun-MSFT deal???

Expression Blend - Early Impressions

12/12/2006 6:44:16 PM
I just started playing with Expression Blend Beta 1 and you can color me very impressed! If you played with the older Expression Interactive Designer and came away less than impressed, much like I did, then the renamed Expression Blend is worth your taking a second look.

An attractive, cleaner interface combined with better performance leads to a much, much better experience. I've walked through the tutorials so far and have just found the experience to be much better. I am now getting ready to use it to build a prototype for a customer and think it will make my WPF experience fantastic.

I'm sure I will hit some rough spots as I go, but all in all, it think this could shape up to be the killer WPF design tool we have been waiting for. I'll keep you posted of my experience as I start to build the prototype.

Scientists find water flowing on Mars? Going out on a limb, but...

12/7/2006 11:26:43 AM
Quite a few articles (CNN story here)on new images taken of Mars that scientists think could indicate water having flowed recently on the surface of the Red Planet. This further raises the possibility that life exists on our closest neighbor.

I may be going out on a limb, but I think the "water" is the first sign of a Martian sewer system. They obviously have to live underground, so where do you think they would pump their toilet plumbing to when they flush???? Call me crazy... crazy like a fox.
