Are Bloggers Journalists?

3/9/2005 6:45:15 AM
Scoble blogs about the Apple suit and makes some earlier posts that make it sound like his is firmly in the "bloggers are journalists" camp. If he isn't then my mistake for putting him there. This all started me thinking about whether or not bloggers are journalists.

Am I a journalist? Heck no - not even close. And I would say that goes for 99.9% of the bloggers out there, and includes many that want to consider themselves journalists. If your job is not to gather news, check facts, and write about it, then you are not a journalist. Just because you go digging about for a scoop on your spare time does not make you a journalist. It makes you the neighborhood gossip monger that happens to have a means of electronic distribution.
