Which XBox 360 Are You Gonna Buy?

9/1/2005 12:11:34 AM
Now that we know that the new XBox is going to come in two versions, one with and one without a hard drive, I am left wondering which I will buy. This BusinessWeek Article asks the same question. My XBox today is played mostly by my kids, so gaming parties, online stuff, etc. are not big deals to me. Faster load times are nice but not sure if its worth the extra $100. I am not a Media Center PC guy so that is not a big deal to me if it's a unique feature to the HD version of the XBox (not sure if that is the case). Of course, the even bigger question, as raised by the article, is whether or not game developers will even take advantage of the hard drive.

All in all, I am not a fan of the two versions. My guess, and this is only a guess, is that the hard drive version is even less a break even proposition than the non-HD version so Microsoft is hedging their bets in the console cost area by offering a different versions as opposed to some big consumer focused effort. Maybe not, but I can be a cynic sometimes. Sign me up for the non-HD version for now.
