Sat through a session covering Expression Graphic Designer and Expression Interactive Designer. The Expression Web Designer tool was going to be covered in the next session and I didn't make it to that one. A couple of caveats before you read my opinions:
- I am not a graphic desinger
- The software they were showing was still very early versions
Graphic Designer: So-so was my opinion. I use PaintShop Pro quite a bit and love it. GD looks a bit clunky from an interface perspective and besides XAML support, does not offer anything really different than similar products. A couple of cool features, but interestingly, I don't see them being all that big a deal to graphic design people. Photo editors, maybe, but vector graphic artists, not so much. Again, not a graphic person so I could be completely wrong on that, but the interface does leave a lot to be desired IMHO. If they can import other editor formats and convert to XAML, expect to see me still working in PaintShop Pro and using GD to convert to XAML.
Interactive Designer: Wicked cool. Allowed you to create some of the coolest PC UIs I have ever seen. Easy to use for the most part, but the UI seemed cumbersome at times. Could just be the result of an early version or maybe me just not completely understanding what was going on. But they did some way cool stuff very easily. This one could be a big hit, especially for developers that also do a bit of UI work.
