This Just In From the "I Told You So" Department

I found this article humorous. Why? Well, internally, Microsoft employees have been complaining about product names since Windows 2000 was announced. Yep, there was a massive internal howl when Microsoft announced that we were going to the gawd awful product year scheme. I still don't like it. But more importantly, it marked when marketing officially took over name products, and that my friends, was the beginning of the end for cool product names for a very long time.

The year naming convention was roundly critized internally by rank and file employees. But of course, we were told we didn't know what we were talking about. Then came even stranger, less interesting names. Product names have sucked ever since with a few excpetions. I for one am glad to see it only took seven years for the powers that be to realize the mushrooms (kept in dark place with crap thrown on them) were right. ;-0
