OSI Approves Microsoft Open Source Licenses

10/16/2007 2:11:35 PM

The OSI announced that the Microsoft Public License (Ms-PL) and the Microsoft Reciprocal License (Ms-RL) have been approved.  To quote the web site announcement, "The decision to approve was informed by the overwhelming (though not unanimous) consensus from the open source community that these licenses satisfied the 10 criteria of the Open Source definition, and should therefore be approved."  I find this fairly impressive since it was less than a month ago that the OSI was saying that one, possibly both (can't remember which it was), were literally DOA due to problems with the licensing terms.  Credit to Microsoft for taking feedback and making changes to the licenses to make them palatable to the OSI.
