Understanding Why Cloud Databases Are Different

The fact that Azure Table Storage and SQL Data Services are key/value databases instead of “traditional” relationship DBs always raises a few eyebrows.  Here is a good article explaining why and some of the pros/cons of that approach.

Thanks for the link Jeff. Having also been exposed to hierachial DB systems, it is interesting how cloud computing is reaching back at times to make its strides forward. Also been pondering use of code generation tools for creation of key/value data store access layers.

The next few years will definately be interesting. Smile
